Using Doshlet
How do I record an expense or add money?
Choose your pot on Today, then tap Add expense or Add money. Enter the amount with the keypad: for example, type 1250 for £12.50. Check the “Today after” and “Pot after” figures, then confirm. Notes and other details are optional.
Add money increases the pot’s planned allocation. It does not move money from a bank. Doshlet does not hold funds, connect to a bank or make payments.
How does the Today allowance work?
Your allowance divides the money available in the pot by the remaining calendar days, including today. Planned payments are set aside first. Recording an expense, refund, allocation change or payment updates that picture.
Choose Today for your daily amount and hours left today, or Pot Total for the full available amount and days left in the period. The reducing ring shows the time remaining. Simple and Detailed views use the same budget.
How do I plan a payment or move money between pots?
Open Pot Settings → Plans & commitments to reserve an upcoming payment. Record it when paid, or release a reservation you no longer need. Stopping a repeating plan prevents future payments; already reserved payments stay until you pay or release them.
In Pot Settings, choose Move money between pots to review both pots’ resulting available amounts before confirming. This moves your planned allocation between pots, not money between bank accounts.
How do I archive, restore or delete a pot?
In Pots, swipe right on an active pot for Archive. Its history stays saved. To use it again, choose Archived, then Restore.
Swipe left for Delete, then confirm to permanently remove the pot and its history. You can also delete from Settings → Data and privacy. Export first if you need a copy; permanent pot deletion cannot be undone.
Can I recover a deleted expense or money entry?
Open Settings → Deleted entries, find the entry and choose Restore entry. Restoring a linked transfer restores both sides together. These entries remain recoverable while their pot data is saved; deleting the entire pot removes its history.
Can I change the colours or appearance?
Open Settings → Appearance to choose from nine Today colours and select System, Light or Dark appearance. Your choice is saved on this device.
Your data and the free release
Where is my budget stored?
In the public free edition, personal budgets stay on your device. No account or internet connection is needed for personal budgeting. Optional reminders and the Home Screen widget use on-device data. Your own Apple device-backup settings may also apply.
How do I keep a copy of my records?
Go to Settings → Data and privacy to export readable CSV or lossless JSON files. Exports include local pots, archived history and deleted entries. Exported files are unencrypted, so store them somewhere you trust.
JSON is a copy of your records; Doshlet does not currently import it as an in-app restore. Keep the app installed to retain your local data, and export before removing it. There is no Doshlet cloud restore in this free edition.
Are shared pots, debt tracking and savings goals included?
These are planned for Doshlet Plus · Coming soon. They are not offered to new users in the first public free release. There is nothing to buy or subscribe to in that version.
When and where can I download Doshlet?
Doshlet is available now, free on the UK App Store, for iPhone with iOS 17 or later. Personal budgeting needs no account or subscription.
Earlier test accounts
If you used an earlier private test build with an online account, shared pot, debt or savings goal, email us for help with your existing records or a server-data request. The free release preserves earlier records with restricted functionality rather than silently deleting them. Deleting local app data does not itself delete an earlier server account.
